I need to know how to remove the spark plug from a 1997 ford explorer single overhead cam v6 4.3 liter.
Is there a special tool, and is it possible to get to it?
A: I had a ‘96 w/4.0L OHV and a ‘98 w/ 4.0L SOHC. Both of these required no special tool, but you could only access the rear passenger plug by jacking the vehicles and going in thru the fenderwell.

Q: question about a 2005 ford explorer limited and gas mileage?
I purchased a 2005 ford explorer limilted with the V-8 and thought is should get around 17 mpg but it only got 11 mpg. It does has 110,000 miles but its sounds and run REALLY smooth. Any idea what the problem may be and what i can do to get better gas mileage? Thank you for your suggestions.
A: if most of your driving is in town or city driving that will greatly reduce your milage, for me i get 27 highway and only 17 in town with a 4cyl no less, it could also be your driving style, if you tend to accelerate quickly, or rev your engeine a bit this too reduces your mpgs, if you idle for periods of time this is essentially getting 0 mpgs as well.
Q: how much should I ask for my 1998 Ford Explorer?
I am looking to sell my truck because I cannot afford to drive it anymore.
1998 Ford Explorer. 220,000 miles, 4 wheel drive, heating/Air conditioning, chrome wheels, its in an overall decent condition.
I was broken into twice, leaving me with the front passenger window broken, the tiny window in the back passenger side, my front passneger side mirror, all broken. And my windshield is cracked. I will obviously fix these before selling it. But it will all be out of my pocket.
Just a random estimate would be helpful.
A: according to kbb.com I found that ur ford is worth $3,135. You may want to try it urself because I wasnt sure about all the options your car includes.
Q: Is there a way to self-dignose your check engine light codes on a 98 Ford Explorer?
My Chrysler T&C lets you turn the key on and off twice, then back on, and the check engine light flashes the codes in sequence. Does a 98 Ford Explorer have a similar solution?
A: No, unfortunately there is no way to “self-diagnose” or retrieve the codes on this particular vehicle like you would on some Chrysler products, where you cycle the ignition key between OFF and RUN three times, ending in the RUN position. You would need to either purchase a code reader that reads OBD-II codes, and retrieve it that way, or take it to either a mechanic with a scan tool, or the the Ford dealer where the servicing tech will retrieve it using IDS. Bear in mind that retrieving the codes does NOT “tell you what the problem is”, rather where the PROBLEM AREA is, that the PCM has detected. You would still need to have it diagnosed properly in order to fix the cause of it, in order to avoid wasting money on unecessary parts replacements where places like Auto Zone like to sell you. For what it’s worth, you are better off taking it to the Ford dealer and paying the diagnostic fee to have it diagnosed right. For example, on Ford products in particular, outside “garages” replacing EGR valves tend to be the most commonly misdiagnosed items, when it is usually the DPFE sensor that should’ve been replaced (a sensor that most mechanics unfamiliar with Fords don’t even know exists, let alone its purpose). Hope this helps.
Q: What subwoofers should i put in my 1994 Ford Explorer?
My 1994 Ford Explorer has a horrible sound system, i want to put a new one in, now what kind of Subwoofers should i put in, (brand and size) i just want good bass, nothing real special just something to cruise around with. Also does this car come with a good enough Amp to support the Subwoofers?
A: if you want good bass response, you will need a matched amp and sub or just buy a powered sub, one will do
Q: How do I take out the steering wheel cruise control switches out of a 1998 Ford Explorer.?
I am trying to remove the cruise control switches from the steering wheel of my 1998 ford explorer. My problem is how do I get in the steering wheel to get them out? Thanks in advance
A: If the switches are in a pod in the foam padding like my Merc, just use a pocket knife and slowly worked the pod out of the foam. There were no other fasteners holding the pod in, just press fit into the foam.
Q: Is there something I can buy that will cover the minimal rust on my 1992 Ford Explorer Wheel Wells?
There is a minimal amount of rust found on the upper portion of my 1992 Ford Explorer’s Wheel Wells. I was wondering if there was something i could purchase, something like a plastic guard, that will look good and cover the rust. Any Ideas are appreciated
A: check out RustSeal
Q: How do you turn off the auto reverse on a factory radio for a 1996 ford explorer eddie bauer edition?
I recently bought a1996 ford explorer eddie bauer edition with a 6 disc cd changer that didn’t work. We bought a portable cd player with the car adapter kit, but the auto reverse tape on the tape deck keeps flipping the tape required for this. Unfortunately the vehicle didn’t come with an owner’s manual, and we have no idea how to turn this feature off…Does anyone have any suggestions??
A: You need an adapter that has gears in it to simulate a tape being played. It’s sensing the “take-up real” not moving so it assumes the tape is done and flips.
Q: How do I find out if my 1994 Ford Explorer has premium sound?
I dont want to take out the speaker to find out, but if the tape deck has “DNR” printed on it it is premium sound right?
Like i said its a 1994 ford explorer
I have a after market head unit on it and when we were installing it we got a wiring harness but it didnt fit the original had to many wires which would be for the extra components right?
A: You will have the factory amplifier in that Exploder.
Since the head unit is aftermarket and the factory amp only works with the factory head unit (factory unit has no internal amp like an aftermarket unit), that’s irrelevant now.
