Q: Question for people who know a lot about the Subaru WRX STI?
What kind of mods are on this engine and what do they improve? i don’t understand the bigger pipes… http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/2927/1441/32315720001_large.jpg
also how much do those upgrades cost?

A: Bigger pipes = more airflow = more power.

That car probably has an aftermarket turbo as well, so they want to give it all the air it can handle.

You can also see a strut bar at the top of the picture. That just stiffens the chassis of the car so it doesn’t flex as much in turns.

Q: what is the difference betwen the 2004 and 2005 subaru wrx sti?
the difference is?

A: Stereo was an option in 04 so you may find one without but that’s pretty rare. The center console in the 04 was different with different HVAC controls and the hand break was in a different position. On the outside of the car in 05 it got 1/2 inch wider wheels with slightly upgraded wheel bearings. The wheels bolt pattern changed from 5X100 in 04 to 5X114.3 in 05. The inside of the headlights were colored a little darker in 05 and also there was a small flair on the rear fender over the wheel. I may be missing a thing or two but that is pretty much it. Power and drive train were the same so

Q: Car Salesman asks for 37K for 2011 Subaru WRX STI. No options. How low should I go?
Only a few left. The pressure is on. Need to make a deal in two days. This is for a grey Subaru WRX 2011 STI. This is the hatch back model

A: $37,000 for a SUBARU? No options? Go buy a small luxury car with options…

2011 Mercedes Benz C Class starts at $33,000

2011 Cadillac CTS starts at 36,000

2011 Acura TSX starts at 29,000

Those Subaru “options” will be standard in these cars…

Q: Where Can I Hire A Subaru Impreza WRX STi or Mitsubishi EVO?
I am looking to hire a Subaru Impreza for a weekend as a present for my wife to be… Is there anywhere this can be done?
I am preferably looking for a post 2001 WRX STi, 22B, P1 or v5 STi Type-R but base WRX would do or a post 6 Evo…… Like a Tommi Makinnen!……..
This mus be in the UK… Either Lincolnshire or London

A: Try asking on scoobynet.com. They may have an answer for you.

Q: Which would you say is better a 2007 Ford mustang or a 2004 Subaru WRX STI?
my pick is the sti
not going for looks just all out performance

A: Honestly for performance I would go WRX and despite the old man comment I’ve never seen an old man driving a WRX around here but I do tend to race young ones with my EVO. :D

Q: is the 2005 audi s4 b6 faster than the 2007 subaru impreza wrx sti?
if the audi is not faster, then what do i have to do to make it faster than the subaru sti?( what kind of performance parts do i have to put on the audi s4 to make it faster than the subaru sti?)

A: The numbers:
2005 Audi S4 – 4.2 litre V8 producing 340 HP, 302 lb-ft torque; curb weight 3,902 pounds; available 6 speed transmission; all wheel drive
2007 Subaru WRX STI – 2.5 litre turbocharged flat four producing 300 HP, 290 lb-ft torque; curb weight 3,351 pounds; available 6 speed; all wheel drive

The math:
Audi 11.5 pounds/HP
Subaru 11.2 pounds/HP

Analysis: The considerably lighter STI has virtually the same torque as the Audi — the Subaru will be faster “off the line.” While the weight/power ratios are very close, they do slightly favor the Subaru. The STI will be faster, generally, on straight pavement up to the cars’ top speeds.

The heavy, high center of gravity Audi will not be competitive against the lighter, low center of gravity Subaru on a road course. The Subaru wins in all categories except interior appointment. Audi consistently wins all sorts of awards for its interior design. And, if you throw a couple hundred pounds of ballast in the Subaru, especially high up in the car, say on the seats, they’ll be close on a track.

Q: Subaru Impreza WRX STI a Sports car to insure? ?
Are the 04-07 Subaru WRX STI consider as a Sports car to the insurance? Or is it a family car since its a 4door?

A: Okay I have State Farm and I looked into this. Even though the car is a sedan, its definately a sports sedan. With State Farm every car is given a rank or number that helps dictate the cost of insurance. The average number is about 20. A 2001 Honda Civic LX sedan is like a 17 on the scale. The number is based on many factors: Coupes are higher ranked than four doors, and also the companies take into account how many claims are made with each vehicle, the average age of the driver, the type of engine and its power output, and the initial price of the vehicle, and many other things affect it too.

But with the STi, I looked at an ‘04 Sti with minimum coverage and it was going to cost around $1400 every six months, and it was a 32 on their scale. A Corvette Z51 was like a 34 so its extremely high I had liablility, a $500 deductible, and a few others things on the insurance plan.

But I am a male under the age of 25 so that will make it cost a lot more.

So basically yeah its a sports car regardless of the number of doors because of all the other factors that dictate insurance cost.

Q: my00 subaru wrx sti version 6 maintenance/servicing costs?
Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of how much the servicing costs are for a my00 subaru wrx sti version 6. I’m thinking of buying one that’s done about 70k kms and I was wondering what I would soon have to spend on it (eg. for clutch, timing belt, or anything else). Even if anyone knows how much the 100k kms service is that would be great.

Cheers.

A: I’m fuzzy on the whole kms/ mi translation, so I’ll give you the mi intervals, and you can convert:
30K: basically oil change, rotation, coolant service, a lot of checks and inspections, clean the throttle body on turbo models. Dealer cost: about $375

60K: same as 30K, only add spark plug change on turbo cars.
Dealer cost: about $425

Timing belt isn’t due on the 2.0/ 2.5 turbo until 105K mi/ 200K km, so that’s a ways off for you. not sure about cost, as my WRX only has about 25K on it, but my non turbo Legacy was about $330

You said the car you’re looking at only has around 70K km, roughly 35K mi on it. If there are any clutch/ trans issues this early in it’s life, then I would walk away now.. cause it would have had to be severely abused to need such major work after such a short time.

Q: What car would you rather have if it was the same price. An 06 Subaru WRX STI or a Infiniti M35x(AWD)?
The m35 has back up cam and alot of other stuff.

A: Hard to say as each is in a different class one being luxury against one being sporty so it depends on what type of car you want to go for.
A can’t say go Subaru even tho they are good cars as skyline and Subaru owners have to hate each other.

Q: Which would you choose Mitsubishi Lancer Evo or Subaru WRX STI?
Which car would you choose between Mitsubishi Lancer Evo or Subaru WRX STI? They both are all wheel drive and almost identical in performance.

A: I would pick STI and here is why.

I have been asking around this question for about five years! If you put aside the performance, STI’s interior is much much more “you get your money’s worth” feel compare to Lancer’s “am I driving ford”

I help out at California Rally Series and Western States Rally Championship, both events have more contestant on STI over Lancer. Only good thing I have heard about Lancer is its handling.

Q: What is a 2004 subaru wrx sti boost controller set at stock?

A: Peak is around 14.5 but you will only see that from 3rd gear or so. First peaks at around 11 and second around 13 because of the lower load in those gears.

WRX is 13.5 not the STI

Q: Why are there still new Mitsubishi EVO 9s out there vs Subaru WRX STI?
I am in central FL, and I notice that dealers still have several NEW 06 Mitsubishi EVO 9s. It’s much harder finding a new 2007 Subaru WRX STI, since they get sold quicker. I am a prospective buyer and would like to have some input on this.

Why is this? Does the EVO have other ‘achilles heels’ other than the dreaded premature clutch wear? Is the STI the better car for the street and occasional track? The EVO is praised in all magazines and people as ‘the car to have’, yet the Subaru STI is the ‘hard car to find’. Can anyone shed light on the subject? Thanks

A: i guess it’s just your location, i live in southern cali and i went to the mitsu dealership to test drive the evo and they had none! i asked the dealer whats up and he said they were all sold out. we got to talking and i told him i was thinking of the sti or evo and from what he told me is that alot of people supposedly traded there sti’s for the evo… so it could just be the dealer talking but one thing for sure was that there were no evos on the lot at all

Q: Which car is better to race and drift in a 2006 Subaru WRX STi or Mitsubishi’s Lancer Evolution MR ?
Looking for a new car i want the best out of these two but i don’t know which one is better. I want it to be fast, cheap, and able to drift. and has a lot of aftermarket parts to customize what i want. any ideas. Also where can i get a used one for cheap which ever it may be?

A: it is hella hard to drift awd’s good luck bud i have a vr-4 and that things a bitch to drift with it is possible but not as good as a rear wheel drive car would be

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for different cars before buying one, for example here – autoinsurance.undonet.com
